Personal Finance Society and Chartered Insurance Institute
The Personal Finance Society (PFS) is a professional body for financial advisers. It was formed in 2005 from the merger of the Life Insurance Association and the Society of Financial Advisers. The PFS is a division of the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII), a large provider of financial services qualifications. The CII grants the Chartered Financial Planner title.
Tim Page is a member of the PFS and a Chartered Financial Planner.
Chartered or Certified?
Both Chartered Financial Planner status and the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER (CFP) certification are advanced professional qualifications for financial planners. Both are QCF Level 6, compared to the current entry level QCF Level 3 qualification.
What’s the difference?
Chartered Financial Planner status has greater consumer recognition in the UK. But PageRussell believes the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER (CFP) certification is the best measure of financial planning ability available in the UK as it combines vocational skills with technical expertise.
CFP certification is renewed annually, providing the planner satisfies certain ongoing educational requirements, has no upheld complaints against him or her and continues to abide by a strict code of ethics. There are over 100,000 CFP professionals worldwide, around 1,000 of which are in the UK.
